Having toiled through making the Jaws set recently I thought it would be nice to talk about one of my favourite builds.
I bloody love it when some of my favourite things collide - Doctor Who dances on Strictly, Eleven playing football and LEGO tapping into some of my favourite things as well - we had Doctor Who of course, Disney, and then there was this set that I am talking about now.
It was a set I needed to complete the minute I started, I was sat on my bedroom floor trying to sort bricks quietly well into the early hours of the morning.
This set isn't just a coffee shop, hell no, it is Central Perk, the place of so many iconic scenes in Friends. Rachel and Ross' snog, Smelly Cat, Ross on his keyboard...
When I built this set it was an absolute joy! There are so many easter eggs of the show in it, including Ross' keyboard. I still hold building behind the counter as some of the best building design of LEGO. Intricate, but sturdy, watching as each part builds into a memorable part of the show.
It isn't even that big a set - coming in with 1,070 pieces, but it definitely was some of the most rewarding building I have done. Iconic décor, the orange sofa (sorry couch), the Central Perk logo, the coffee machine.
The set came with seven minifigures - Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey along with Gunther as well. Each minifigure had their own accessories that referenced moments that made me smile in the show like a pizza for Joey and Phoebe's guitar.
This was so good that I spent nearly as much as the set on a display case for it. I wanted it protected!
We will probably never get to see a show like that come around again, adored by so many across the whole world. I will always have a little piece of Friends in my house now - mixing one of LEGO's most creative Ideas sets with timeless humour and love from one of the greatest sitcoms (if not the best) ever made.
If you never got your hands on this set and are a massive Friends fan, I would fully recommend hunting it down to buy second hand. My only regret is that I never brought the apartment sets - but who knows what the future might bring?
