Bumpy-wumpy!

I watched this after the England Slovakia game, watching England has depressed me immensely, it brings no joy whatsoever, so this may get a little bump for the simple fact that anything is better than watching that shower for 120 minutes.
That said, this is a goodun!! For an episode where the Doctor spends a lot of time in bed this isn't bad at all. Billie Piper carries the episode as Rose, with a helping hand from her Mum and Mickey. This must of been such a thrill for people at the time, a Doctor bloody Who special on Christmas day. Little did everyone know what a festive staple this would become.
Going back to watch every series in order has brought me a little thrill as well. It is like I own my very own TARDIS and I am being transported back to a magical time watching the show for the very first time. I don't know why I think that, I have watched a lot of these episodes hundreds of times, I guess just watching it in the order they were made to be seen just adds a bit of sparkle to things.
"I'm gonna get killed by a Christmas tree!"
I forget how jarring a new Doctor can be, especially if you have grown up with the one who has just been replaced. Ten doesn't do much until the last ten minutes, people must of been spitting feathers. This though, was a great Christmas episode, and with hindsight it is up there with the best of the specials.
Russell really knocks family life out of the park, especially with Rose. Jackie has to be the best Doctor Who Mum right? Every scene with Jackie is great, every, single, one!!
Whilst I am talking of great things, The Doctor's Theme really is an amazing piece of music, every single time I hear it it sends chills down my spine.
"I don't think we've been introduced. Harriet Jones, Prime Minister."
I will stand on this hill - I do not like "yes, we know who you are". I am sorry Russell, it is up there with "mavity" for me, and not in a good way. Another hill I will stand on is that some of the extras that appear in Doctor Who are fantastically awful. Some of the over dramatic open mouths and scared looks are superb.
They do make for a couple of great visuals though, standing on the edge of buildings including the Coliseum.
"Wanna know the best bit? This new hand? It's a fightin' hand!"
Finally we get to see the Doctor and this is a punch the air moment for me. We get to see our first real glimpses of Ten being Ten, and when Rose realises the TARDIS is translating the Sycorax just before the Doctor appears it is so exciting. David Tennant is amazing when he steps out, and we know we are in safe hands for the next few years.
This really set the tone for Christmas specials, and I love it for this. They are always good fun.
I love the ending as well, six words, Song For Ten is a banger, the Doctor having Christmas dinner with Rose, Jackie and Mickey, and planning their next trip in the snow.
RATING: Sonic!
BEST LINE: "Well, yeah, you could, yeah. You could do that, of course you could. But why? Look at these people, these human beings. Consider their potential. From the day they arrive on the planet, blinking step into the sun. There is more to be seen than can ever be seen. More to do than… No, hold on. Sorry, that’s the Lion King. But the point still stands. Leave them alone!"
