What did you think of this episode?
Sonic!
Good!
Bumpy-wumpy!
Exterminate!
I am not old enough to remember Sarah Jane first time around but this one still gives me the feels!
First thing I must say though is when did Doctor Who start using children for food? Blimey!! Anthony Head is clearly having a lot of fun in this and I love him for it. The CGI may not hold up so well these days, but they are still very fun aliens.
"It’s very well-behaved, this place. I thought there would be happy slapping hoodies. Happy slapping hoodies with ASBOs. Happy slapping hoodies with ASBOs and ringtones. Yeah? Yeah? Oh yeah! Don’t tell me I don’t fit in."
Are ASBOs still a thing?! Those were the days eh?
One scene really upgrades this episode, and that is when Sarah Jane sees the TARDIS and then the Doctor. The music is amazing, the acting is amazing, everything is amazing. Even if you had no idea who Sarah Jane was I think this would give you the feels!!
Unfortunately Rose had to ruin all those vibes by being such a grumpy cow!! I wasn't a massive fan of this part of the episode, I get that Rose is young and all that jazz, but I thought she was better than that (especially when you compare the reaction to the next episode - but that's for another time). Some of Rose's actions irritate me in this one, and she is back to treating Mickey like a piece of shit again!! The bloke helped you get back to save the Universe not that long ago Rose, cut him some bloody slack!!! Come to think of it, he helped save Earth at Christmas as well, poor bloke!! He keeps coming back for more though!
"John Smith. I used to have a friend who sometimes went by that name."
The magic of the episode is Sarah Jane though, and her return, along with K9 (bad dog!). There are some great scenes between her and the Doctor. In the coffee shop when they reminisce, when Sarah Jane tells him about her life and struggles without him and how he just left her. This leads to a great scene with Rose and also a great ending with the Doctor finally saying goodbye to Sarah Jane.
"You can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can’t spend the rest of mine with you. I have to live on. Alone. That’s the curse of the Time Lords."
Mickey learns he is the tin dog, and finally gets to travel in the TARDIS despite Rose being a bit of a cow about it. This is just an all round fun, emotional and bloody good Doctor Who story.
RATING: Good!
BEST LINE: "Oh my God, I'm the tin dog."
