I got swept away by the new series so never had a chance to finish...!
As I work my way through reviewing each episode and series I find it abundantly clear that I love this show too much. I struggle to slate it. A lot of the time it is just moments in episodes that make me cringe, or the odd episode or run of episodes I find a bit boring.
All I will say is RTD and co absolutely smashed this!! What a bloody marvellous series of TV this was. No wonder this show went on to hit some monumental heights for a fair few years after this. Christopher Ecclestone was a masterstroke, he is a fantastic actor anyway, but he is such a great Doctor. Dark yet funny!!
They also pulled a rabbit out of the hat casting Billie Piper who was the perfect choice of companion for the time. I still love the way Rose was done in this series, I don't think we get to see so much wonder and terror in a companions eyes after this series. It really felt like we were on the ride with her.
Big tick for casting. Big tick for the writing as well. Rose was a wonderful start, and I think bar The Long Game every episode was a delight. How thrilling to see the Daleks come back, how exciting that there are so many new monsters to be terrified of as well.
There is something to love in every episode. There is something for everyone in every episode. A satire on the war in Iraq with farting aliens. Mad Daleks about to take over the World whilst the Doctor is in the Diary Room. A spaceship about to be blown up by a flap of skin. What is not to like? I never understand how people don't like this show!!
Honestly, I struggle to say a bad word about this series, I really do.
My biggest bugbear is that we didn't get another series of Nine and Rose. Ten and Rose never quite worked as well for me (sorry!!!!). It is all the more disappointing as there was obviously some issues behind the scenes which means it is highly unlikely we will ever see Christopher again. I think I would of passed out if he popped up in the 50th (I do not count "for my next trick"). Here's hoping that one day, something will happen and he can come back, I only want an episode, that is all I want Mr. Ecclestone!!
