What did you think of these episodes?
Sonic!
Good!
Bumpy-wumpy!
Exterminate!
This was creepier than I remember!!!!
Steven Moffat's first episodes, and you can see where the hype came from.
The first part, wow!! So much to pack in, Captain Jack before his cock waving days, the creepy AF child in the gasmask, Nancy who is an amazing character, nanogenes, Victor Meldrew fucking our heads up with the most amazing and scary scene, and possibly one of the most iconic lines from the entire shows history.
"Are you my Mummy?"
I just adore this story, it is helped by having some great side characters, as mentioned before I thought Nancy was brilliantly played by Florence Hoath - I googled her after watching this and she now does a kids YouTube channel with her husband, a fun fact for you, or not as the case may be!
She really sold the leader of the gang of children to me, and I was rooting for her from the start, something I don't always do with the supporting characters. I often wonder if being autistic makes me miss major points, was it obvious Nancy was the boys Mummy or was everyone as flummoxed as me come the end?
Anyway, it all kicks off, Rose is being shot at by the Nazis - one minor point Rose, you could of let go of that rope way before you were hanging over London for goodness sake!!!!!!
Captain Jack rocks up and is another great character to add to this episode. At times in the future he became to cheesy for me - certainly in Doctor Who - but will report on that when I get to it as I thought he was great in these episodes. The Doctor meets the homeless children and the child stalks Nancy.
"Well, I’ve got a banana and in a pinch you could put up some shelves."
There were so many great moments in this episode, the Doctor answering the TARDIS phone was hilarious, I also loved the resolution to the cliffhanger - go to your room!! With each passing episode I watch I really long to see more of Eccleston as the Doctor, what an unreal piece of casting!!
On a side note, another thing that went over my head originally was all the undercover shagging talk. Who knew dancing meant that eh?! Well, probably most people to be honest!! This leads to another great scene, where the Doctor is trying to resonate concrete but Rose wants to dance.
"Software patch. Gonna email the upgrade. You want moves, Rose? I’ll give you moves. Everybody lives, Rose! Just this once! Everybody lives!"
I don't think any other show can pull things off like Doctor Who. In the last few episodes they have been on a space station broadcasting news that is run by a big blob, then been in the 80's for a very family led episode, and now they have a little boy in a gas mask turning people into people with a gas mask. It really is a crackers show, and I fucking love it!!
Sometimes I have watched stunning episodes and been disappointed by the ending, but not here, oh no, this one is magical!! Everybody lives, the sheer joy of the Doctor, the realisation Nancy is Jamie's Mummy, saving Jack from blowing up, dancing in the TARDIS, yes, yes, yes!! I will rate each episode of this series come the end, but it is safe to say this will be pushing for the number one spot without a shadow of a doubt!!
