Doctor Who Series 1 (14) Episode Ranking

Updated: Jul 25

Just my thoughts, please don't shoot the messenger!!

9. Rogue

It just wasn't for me I'm afraid. I enjoyed the scenes between the Doctor and Rogue but that was about it. I didn't like the monsters at all, I know Doctor Who can be silly but cosplaying birds?! Please!!

8. Space Babies

This was always going to be lower down, even before the episodes aired I had a feeling this one would be low on my list. I still liked it, it was fine. It was fun. But I think it was just fine and fun and nothing much more. Ncuti and Millie were great of course, but the stakes never felt that high to me, and it had a snot monster and talking babies in it so yeah!

7. The Church on Ruby Road

A steady start for Ncuti and Millie, nothing ground-breaking but all good fun. The goblins weren't particularly memorable but it definitely told us we were in safe hands with this pair leading us forward.

6. Dot & Bubble

A good episode with a very memorable ending. I was struggling with the lack of Doctor for the second week in a row when I watched this first time around. The short run of episodes probably cost this one being a bit higher as I think with 2 or 3 more Doctor heavy episodes would of pushed this slightly higher in my ranking.

5. Empire of Death

I loved this, don't get me wrong. I sometimes think watching a finale as a fan of the show always leaves you wanting more. This would of hit a more casual viewer harder perhaps? Fans always want something or someone to return so a mysterious character arc all through the series leads to all sorts of hopes and theories, and if they aren't met that can put a bit of a downer on things.

4. Boom

For one or two moments in this episode I actually felt a feeling in my stomach that said shitting hell the Doctor and Ruby are fucked here. I don't get that often watching Doctor Who, as well the Doctor always wins. A big plus for giving me that feeling, a big, big plus.

3. The Devil's Chord

I know this wasn't for everyone but come on? How enjoyable was this? Maestro was a batshit crazy villain played brilliantly by Jinkx Monsoon. It was camp, creepy in parts, and it just felt different, and I loved it for that. A lot of people didn't enjoy the song, I on the other hand, have been bopping away to it ever since!

2. The Legend of Ruby Sunday

I'm a sucker for the drama. This episode just felt like my kind of Doctor Who, a slow build up, some character moments, then boom, a massive dramatic ending and some scary arsed moments! A real throwback to simpler times watching RTD1.

1. 73 Yards

It's been a long time since I watched an episode of Doctor Who on the edge of my seat but boy this episode had me almost falling off my seat. I remember the first watch being totally enthralled, engrossed in an amazing piece of television. Millie was superb, oh I really loved this. Did we get all the answers we wanted, no, but why should we?

What was your favourite episode of the series? I would love to know.
