  • Exterminate!

The Moff is back!!

I am putting it out there, this has been the best Doctor Who has been in a long, long time. I don't just mean this episode, I mean the series in general. It is varied, fresh, exciting, and I love it. Boom was a change in pace that I think the series needed, and for that reason I think Steven Moffat has delivered for RTD2 here.

The episode looked really, really good, the budget upgrade is mind blowing. Don't get me wrong, it has looked good for a long time, Jodie's era had some wonderful cinematic moments, but you can tell they are flexing their Disney budget.

Ncuti, as if I need to even type this, was epic!! He is most defiantly the Doctor. He shines here, and he is fast moving up my favourite Doctor chart. So much so that I went and booked a ticket to see the finale in the cinema, on my own, this is something I never, ever would of done, and is very out of character, but there is something that has resonated with me with Ncuti. He is an amazing actor, but I don't think that is the reason. I think it goes back to something he said when he was cast - “This person survived a genocide. This person fits in everywhere and nowhere. I am the Doctor. The Doctor is me.".

He gets what it is to be the Doctor. The hate he gets from the YouTube and X crew further drives me to like him more. They claim the show is woke, that the Doctor shouldn't cry, that he was cast purely for the colour of his skin. These people don't watch the show, they are grifting, jumping on a bandwagon, making money by fuelling hate, and they are missing out on what has so far been an amazing take on the Doctor by an amazing actor.

"Flashy lights play well in a showroom. Modern warfare. Death by salesmen."

Every scene in this episode he owns. This is the first episode I have watched in a long time where I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach, I was scared for him. This is hard to do in Doctor Who - I mean we all know he is going to walk away back to the TARDIS come the end of the episode, but for a fleeting moment it was there, the dread in my stomach that something very bad was about to go down. So for that, Ncuti, Millie, Steven, Julie, take a bow!!

A lot of things in each episode fly way over my head, for starters I had no idea that was the new companion staring at me all episode. I don't look to deep into messaging either, I know capitalism is bad, greedy fuckers draining us mere mortals for every one of our hard earned pennies so for 45 minutes or so I just enjoy good Doctor Who being on my TV.

"Do you get, get, get it?"

This was bloody good Doctor Who as well. The scene where Ruby is shot and the Doctor stares helplessly then lets out an "arrgghh" is just wonderful, honestly cannot get that out of my head. I wonder if my head was more switched on and I noticed Varada in the episode if I would of thought shitting hell, Millie is gone, Ruby is fucked here. I guess The Legend of Ruby Sunday in the penultimate episode probably put paid to that thought though.

I think other people mentioned it but Splice was a bit grating. Mainly when she was merrily looking through photos of her and her Dad as the Doctor and landmine were about to blow up - come on girl, get a grip here!!!! At least show a bit of panic!!!!!!

I did worry that I would be so hyped about a Moffat episode that I would end up being disappointed when I actually watched it. That was not the case though. I loved all the call backs as well, I especially liked the holograms repeating themselves - very Library.

My main takeaway is Ncuti Gatwa - you are the man!!!!!!!! I cannot believe we are nearly halfway through already, I need more of this!!

RATING: Sonic!

BEST LINE: "Arggghhh!"
