Doctor Who Series 4 Episode Ranking

Updated: Nov 10

This was a hell of a series, so this may be tricky, and may cause a few controversial placings:

14. The Doctor's Daughter

This is an easy one for me. The weakest episode by far in an otherwise stunning series. Click bait title and just a bit meh!

13. The Poison Sky

I enjoyed these more than I thought I would. Was fun seeing UNIT, and always a pleasure to see the Noble's.

12. The Sontaran Stratagem

As above really, I usually rank the first parts ahead of the second, I enjoy a cliffhanger.

11. Partners in Crime

Some iconic moments, not too much at stake, cute over scary monsters, a decent start.

10. Voyage of the Damned

A bold, loud Christmas special, RTD throwing the kitchen sink at us. Looked amazing, Kylie was a surprisingly good guest,

9. The Fires of Pompeii

Capaldi and Gillan. Yes please! Catherine Tate showed she wasn't just in the show for a bit of comic relief and shouting. I enjoy seeing the Doctor cause things from our history, this is always a bonus point from me.

8. Planet of the Ood

I mean this is a standard episode I grant you. Base under siege and all that jazz. This series is so good though, and this episode is proof of that. In other series this may have been a middling affair, but it is really quite brilliant. Some amazing lines in this as well - most memorably - who made your clothes.

7. The Unicorn and the Wasp

Another episode that proves how good this series is. Slap bang in the middle of the series is where we usually find a weaker episode or two - especially when the tone changes. This is a fun adventure which shows off David and Catherine's comedy abilities.

6. Midnight

I know, it will probably top a lot of peoples list, but this series is so strong. I think this being in the middle proves that. It is an amazing episode. David Tennant is superb in this!

5. Silence in the Library

Hey, who turned out the lights? Donna Noble has left the library. Donna Noble has been saved. Am I the only one who enjoys a cliffhanger with repeating sentences? Each time it gets spoken I get more excited.

4. Journey's End

Avengers assemble!! A whole week of waiting and it was a trick!! Damn you RTD! The Stolen Earth was an amazing set up to this episode, I don't think this was quite as good, but it was thrilling seeing everyone together. The Doctor and Davros moments were epic. Why does Martha always have the shit jobs though?!

3. Forest of the Dead

God this was good. Seeing the Doctor and River dynamic expand. Donna in the computer, the children disappearing, a romance that still hit home even though Lee barely says a word, River's speech, the Doctor saving her...! An episode spend the whole time grinning and kicking your feet as you watch it.

2. The Stolen Earth

Epic!!!!! Nothing more to add!

1. Turn Left

Maybe a controversial one? I can't help it, Catherine Tate puts in such a good performance, I love seeing how the world copes (or doesn't cope) without the Doctor. Bernard Cribbins and Jacqueline King are magnificent also. Oh and the ending is one that makes me jump out of my seat!!!
