Doctor Who Series 4, Episode 3 Review: Planet of the Ood

What did you think of this episode?

  • Sonic!

  • Good!

  • Bumpy-wumpy!

  • Exterminate!

I know this is a highly rated series, I know many people rate it as the best, but my God I forgot how good it was. Watching it in the order it was intended to be watched is giving me a new found love for it already - three episodes in.

This is another cracking episode. Some might class this as a bit of filler, but it is bloody good filler!!

"The circle must be broken."

Moffat is probably the best monster creator of modern Doctor Who, but the Ood are a great addition by RTD. Not technically monsters I guess, or are they? What would you class the Ood as?

Oh and to all you youngsters - we had Sigma long before you!! All hail Ood Sigma!! Skibidi toilet!!!

Some of the shots of the planet are amazing. It looks so good!! Doctor Who needing a Disney budget really is hogwash!!

"Who d’you think made your clothes?"

Old woke Doctor Who doing woke things as always. The absolute cheek to bring up slave labour of children. Grrrrr!! Woke, woke, woke!! What next? A gay companion? I am joking of course.

This line hits very hard!! It should hit all of us very hard!! A simple line that shows the hypocrisy we all have!! I own a pair of Nike shoes, I use Amazon, I have no right to comment on this really.

It is hard to operate without being some sort of hypocrite though I guess. You would have to live with the Doctor and Martha in Hermits United to not have done something that people might use against you? Whilst I don't advocate Just Stop Oil doing certain things, it annoys the fuck out of me when a newspaper will take a photo of one of their cars. Oh look, they are part of Just Stop Oil but have an old car!! Ok, explain to me how they should get about then? Should they walk everywhere? What is their job? Where do they live? If they live in a place like mine there really is no option but to have a car. What is their job? How much do they earn? You almost have to be a millionaire to afford public transport. If you don't live in London with the Underground and all that, what do they expect?

How about heating your home? You know, it is a pretty basic need? We have no choice!! If I had a choice I would tell Thames Water to fuck off, I would hope that every single slimy shareholder sponging all the money went bankrupt, but I actually want water, I kind of need it. Gas? Again, I'd like nothing more than to live without it, putting some solar panels on my house is beyond me though!!

Everyone has a basic need for things? The older I get the more I realise the problems are down to one thing and one thing alone - greed!! Nothing more, nothing less. Greed, plain and simple!!

Take Sainsburys for example - they are more than happy to plaster their products for Pride or state their support of BLM but when push comes to shove they have taken advantage of the situation we find ourselves in now and pushed their prices up high, very high!! Oh yeah they offer a few things 'cheaper' through Nectar but don't tell me they care. Aldi can sell the same product cheaper whilst paying their staff more. I get that having large companies promote causes is a good thing, but let's not pretend they are doing it for good. They are doing it because it is cheap and easy to do. At no point are their words backed up by their actions!!

Don't get me started on large companies preaching to us about climate change. Amazon ran an add about some environmental issues and the like, but how's your space travel going Bezos?!

I love Disney, I love the films, I love the theme parks, but just because you make Captain Marvel a woman it doesn't cover the fact that you underpay your workers!!!

"And know this, Doctor Donna. You will never be forgotten. Our children will sing of the Doctor Donna. And our children's children. And the wind and the ice and the snow will carry your names forever."

Not sure I fully got that off my chest, basically big companies are full of shit, and if we can ever escape them dominating things the world would be a much, much better place. This episode however is great!! Full of great moments, especially for Donna. When the Doctor helps her hear the song of captivity and she begs him to make it stop is a powerful moment. Equally we get the song of freedom which is Murray Gold at his joyous best!

I am also a fan of an OTT villain - and Roger Griffiths as Commander Kess certainly fits that bill. It was obvious he was going to meet a nasty ending by all that joy at causing the Ood pain!! Ditto for Tim McInnerny's Mr. Halpen - two for the price of one!!

RATING: Sonic!

BEST LINE: "I think your song must end soon."
