I have a bad habit when I dip in and out of Doctor Who, I often watch part one of two parters and miss the second part. Maybe I just put it on at night and am tired come the end, or sometimes I just don't bother. Does anyone else do this or is it just me? Anyway, this means it has been quite some time since I last watched Doomsday, and it caught me off guard.
I have whinged in these blogs all through my rewatch of Series 2 about Ten and Rose, it wasn't for me, I preferred the Nine/Rose dynamic, I also thought Rose changed in this series, and not for the best. She became selfish and at times I thought she was mean, a far cry from the girl who stopped the Doctor from shooting a Dalek. With that in mind I wasn't expecting to react as I did come the end of this series finale - I'm not afraid to say I started to well up - it takes a lot to get me going - Up and The Snowman always do for me, and maybe a certain Doctor to comes regeneration, but other than that I am a heartless bastard!!
I think what got me was how bloody brilliant Billie Piper was - what a stunning, heart-breaking performance she put in.

This is what we come to expect of an RTD finale really, and I don't mean that in a bad way. A slow build in the first part revealing things from clues laced through the series with a sensational twist, then all hell breaking out in the second part.
I bloody loved it. It may look a bit dated in parts, the levers for the ghost shift (sorry to bring them up Rose fans) and the Torchwood warehouse look a bit iffy these days, but hey, what show from 2006 doesn't? Torchwood are revealed and who's that woman working in the office sneaking into forbidden places for a fumble/snog? I like her, what a shame I won't get to see anymore of her...!
WHAT! A! FUCKING! AMAZING! CLIFFHANGER!!
Kids at the time must of been losing their absolute shit!! It still gets me excited even now when the Daleks appear. Yes, yes, yes!! Cybermen fucking everywhere, Daleks on the scene, superb!!
"Exterminate! Delete! Exterminate! Delete! Exterminate! Delete!"
The Daleks and Cyberman battles are actually quite laughable now, it most defiantly was pest control!! The Cybermen got their arses well and truly thumped. It was still a thrill though! I think it has been said that Russell is a massive Dalek fan (and why wouldn't he be?!) and it shows here, the don't even get a scratch!!
I always try to look at Doctor Who through the eyes of a child and how exciting must this of been? Honestly? You saw how terrified Nine was last series, but deep down you loved those bloody pepper pots and then bang, here they are fighting Cybermen!! RTD, you absolute hero!!
Jackie Tyler as ever is a bloody legend, her scenes when she meets Pete again are both funny and moving!! I loved her on the phone to the Doctor trying to explain which staircase she was on as well.
Mickey is back which is always a bonus for me, I am a big Mickey fan. He comes back more badass each time.
"Am I ever going to see you again?"
I think a lot of people have fond, or perhaps not very fond, memories of the music in this episode and in particular Doomsday. It is such a great piece of music, and when we follow Rose to Bad Wolf Bay, cor, it hits!! I would also like to give a shout out to The Cyberman as well - it is a bloody masterpiece, and as the Doctor and Donna cling on as the Daleks and Cybermen fly past them it is a thrilling piece of television.
And so we bid goodbye to Rose Tyler and Billie Piper on Dårlig Ulv Stranden. I had my issues with Rose in Series 2, but Billie was a truly inspired piece of casting, she was fantastic. A large part of me reviewing these episodes again 18/19 years later is in part to her for being so incredible and getting the show off to a winning start. So thank you Billie!! Thank you so much!! If I could I would thank you by shutting up your vile ex husband for you, and us!!
