Doctor Who Is Back, and I'm Loving It - The Robot Revolution Review

Updated: 6 hours ago

What did you think of this episode?

  • Sonic!

  • Good!

  • Bumpy-wumpy!

  • Exterminate!

So I'll admit it, I just love having this show back. I am going to enjoy this series, I'm going to make the most of all the effort people put into making it, and I am going to make the most of having this show back, now, more than ever.

Dodging the Hate – And Loving It

I'm no longer on the artist formerly know as twitter so I won't see that ugly side of things. I like to watch Seskasays and DTDW reaction videos on YouTube, so I'll avoid all those videos of cunts going all out to attack the show. You know the ones, the bright yellow writing, an AI picture of Ncuti or RTD. These pricks love new Doctor Who, they can't wait to spread their hate for a few clicks. They'll claim the Doctor cries too much, but really, they mean he isn't white. They'll just be whiny little bitches - which is ironic when you think about it!

Ok, so new Doctor Who, The Robot Revolution review, what did I think? Biased thought - I loved it. Unbiased thought - it was a hell of a lot better than Space Babies and that's good enough for me.

Belinda's Big Entrance

Let's start with Belinda though. Pre-titles were a bit comic and something I usually dislike. I like to see terror when strange things happen to people, not comedy. That said, Varada plays it well. As the episode got going though, wow, she's good. She has all the makings of a top tier companion, I'm already in love. She challenges the Doctor, she takes the piss out of the Doctor, she doesn't spend all episode fawning over him and telling everyone how wonderful he is. I like that! I like it a lot. Sometimes, the show goes very heavy on telling us the audience how amazing the Doctor is, and we the audience already know that!

"Am I six?"

When Belinda says this I actually laughed out loud, it takes a lot to make me lol, so she's already flying in my eyes.

I was also thankful that Mundy turned out to be a relative rather than another version of Belinda. I hope events that will eventually lead us to the finale are more about chance and fluke, than the companion is the most important woman in the world schtick.

Ncuti’s Energy Is Off the Charts

Ncuti is doing Ncuti things. He seems more energetic than before, I mean he's doing ridiculously high kicks for starters. He really is a bundle of energy.

I know there will be some chatter about him crying again, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. This Doctor shows his feeling, this Doctor hates losing people.

Ncuti is everything though, funny and brilliant, and his Doctor has a way of revealing things only to cut it short and giving it all away. I really do get Ncuti, I get, get, get him!

I have this awful fear that the last episode is going to leave him regenerating, and I don't want to think about it! Argh!

Production Value and Robot Nostalgia

The episode looked incredible, I was worried by the trailer that it might look a bit ropey with the old school rockets and robots, but no, it looked amazing. The Disney money is very much showing here.

The robots reminded me of the emoji bots in series 10, but that might just have been their faces. They are the type of slightly cheesy foes we have come to expect from a Doctor Who opening episode, but I thought they were well done and weren't reducing me to rolling my eyes every time they stomped on screen.

"Girls aren't good at maths, but that's a long way."

I did roll my eyes right at the start though with this line. We get it, the blokes a prat, but can we tone it down a bit! The Belinda I already know would have slapped him for that surely. I'll let it slip as she was younger, and these experiences have shaped who she is now of course. I'm letting a lot slide this series. I can tell you that for nothing.

AI, Incels, and Other Confusing Messages

On a side note, I don't pay much attention to overall messages. So there may, or may not, have been something about AI in there but I just enjoyed seeing Alan looking fucking good as a robot AI man. The incels bit went over my head as well, is an incel the type of person who slates Doctor Who for being woke, or does it mean something else? I'm in my forties, plus a bit of tism, so sometimes I have no idea what the fuck is being said.

AI itself does have its uses, it's just a shame it all seems to be controlled by absolute bell ends!

Mrs Flood – What’s the Deal?

I'm not sure what I think of Mrs Flood at the moment, her appearances so far have tended to take me out of the story being told. I've certainly not looked at her as a threat yet anyway. Perhaps she is never meant to be a threat - let's wait and see how that plays out.

So things are going schwup then? That seems to be the order of the day. I'm intrigued RTD, I'll give you that. Is that Mrs Flood or something else? Who knows, I love not knowing!

The Robot Revolution Review Final Conclusion - Doctor Who Off to a Strong Start

I will have a rewatch at some point this week before we head to Miami - which, along with Eurovision, is the episode I've most been looking forward to.

A strong start with a companion who has all the makings of being part of a peak TARDIS team. Doctor Who is back baby, and I love it!

Where would I put it in the grand scheme of openers? Somewhere in Partners in Crime territory I think, and that's not a bad thing!

Now hurry up next week!!!

Want to read why I think putting Doctor Who on a hiatus is a mistake?
