Deadline Day for Doctor Who (or not as the case may be)

I won't lie, I've never heard of Deadline. However judging by Twitter they are reputable and have got quite a few people worried about the shows future!

First off, for what it's worth, if the writer of this article had done their research surely they would get some basic facts right first.

"At times last year it felt as if the media was receiving almost weekly Doctor Who casting announcements, including David Tennant and Catherine Tate, who returned for Christmas anniversary specials, and guest roles for the likes of trans actress Yasmin Finney, who broke out in Heartstopper, Drag Race star Jinx Monsoon and Glee icon Jonathan Groff."

That was the 60th anniversary specials not the Christmas ones. Petty? Maybe, but if they are stating facts and confirming sources are saying things then I want the basic facts correct.

They also seem to have taken the word of one fan.

"His track record of ending seasons with two parters has been widely varying in success, for example."

Now correct me if I'm wrong but RTD two part endings were massive hits gaining millions of viewers. Some people might not like certain resolutions but I think you would struggle to find a show that ended a series where everyone was happy. I certainly loved his two partners. Big, brash and always bloody exciting!!

"Elsewhere, an influx of diverse characters led the tabloid press in particular to brand the show with terms such as woke obsession and peak woke"

This always fucks me off!!! If a show puts a black character in, it's woke. If a show puts a trans character in, it's woke! It is lazy, people who don't actually watch the show say this. Ncuti is black, dear God Doctor Who is so woke now. If people actually watch the show Ncuti is in fact, the Doctor!! The colour of his skin is barely mentioned but for one scene which isn't woke, it's just bloody good acting by a bloody good actor, of a subject worth talking about. Was that scene woke or was it TV that challenged us?

I don't know how important ratings are these days. However, Disney would be bottling it big time if they went after 2 series. As is clear I'm not a TV industry expert, but surely the best thing for Disney would be to get their hands on more Doctor Who for Disney+? I think the minimum would be 2005 onwards with potentially Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Class. This would give people so many great episodes to watch and bring them along on our wonderful Whovian ride. Also, shows sometimes need to settle, I'm pretty sure Breaking Bad wasn't the humongous hit it became until at least the third series, maybe even later than that. I remember one day trying to talk to people about a funny show I'd seen on Channel 4 the night before, but nobody I spoke to had even heard of The Inbetweeners. There are many more examples of this I'm sure.

What I'm trying to say is don't panic. This show means so much to so many people. It may be that I follow it so much that I notice, but it must be the most talked about, speculated about show, certainly in the UK. Which does make me doubt some articles and videos that crop up about the shows future - clicks pay the bills, and despite what some people tell you, Doctor Who gets people clicks!! Well not this blog, but you get my point don't you loyal reader? Mum? Are you there?

Everyone needs to hold their nerve!! People will watch it, and people will fall in love with it. I'm not having it that people are turning off because it's too woke!! If they have then they haven't been watching it in the first place. Maybe some people have been put off by the woke comments, but I know if they sat down and watched an episode or two then they would see that that's bollocks!! It's still the same old bonkers show!!

I feel that with Ncuti being more available for the series 2 shooting (I think/hope he was anyway) then we are going to see a lot more of his Doctor over the next 9 or so episodes to come. I want to see a whole lot more of his Doctor, he is a bloody delight!! It would be a fucking tragedy if he left now!! It would be a victory, or at least they would claim it as their victory, for the slime who tell everyone the show is failing because it's woke.

Doctor Who was never in a million years going to hit the heights of Tennant and Tate in Series 4 again. It was the right show, with the right actors at the perfect time. No stars align so perfectly normally. Everyone watched TV, my step children haven't even heard of Channel 4!! It just isn't what kids do these days!! YouTube and TikTok are king, so Doctor Who is going to have to find a way to navigate through that!! How? I don't know!!

This show isn't just going to die because Disney discard it though - and that's even if they did discard it!! RTD said only a couple of months ago that it would just go back to the BBC with a smaller budget if that was the case.

Anyway, if people were worried then I would make a few very simple suggestions. Firstly, I'm not sure the midnight drop helps matters, nor does the series being screened in May, so the rest of the World would wait until we watch the show before or after Strictly in the Autumn!! Number two, get Ncuti up against the Daleks. Third, get all of Nu-Who on Disney+. That's it, my three point plan! Sorted!

Stay strong people!!
