What did you think of this episode?
Sonic!
Good!
Bumpy-wumpy!
Exterminate!
I am not going to beat around the bush with this review - as Doctor Who episodes go - I thought Cold War was a bit boring. Thinking about it, any modern Doctor Who episode that has brought back a reptilian humanoid classic series alien race has left me a tad on the disappointed side.
The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood were pedestrian and the less said about Legend of the Sea Devils the better.
"Alright, Captain. Alright. You know what, just this once, no dissembling, no psychic paper, no pretending to be an Earth ambassador. Doctor. Me. Clara. Time travellers."
I don't think I can review this episode without saying something, what with the Cold War and Russia and all that jazz - Donald Trump you are a fucking coward!! Get your tongue out of Putin's arsehole and stop being a fucking cunt!!!
I believe that people have the right to vote who they want, to support who they want, but fuck me, if you voted for Trump you are either thick as fuck or a greedy bastard. How can you look at this orange turd and think yeah, you know what, this guy has my back.
The worst thing about this isn't the Orange fucktard and Musty being awful, to give them their dues they don't hide what horrible cunts they are, it is all the men and women who support them. They don't just support them either, they crawl as far up their arseholes as is humanly possible. Trump on Mount Rushmore? Bank holidays for his birthday? Putting his face on their money. Give your heads a fucking wobble!
Thinking about it - why the fuck would any woman ever vote this tool?! Give your heads an extra wobble!
"Oh look, you’re got me telling you about them and I said there wasn’t time!"
Back to the Soviet submarine - a claustrophobic setting and interesting idea, however, I hate to say it, I found the episode dull and uninspired.
I didn't feel much suspense considering what was at stake, and the Ice Warrior looked a bit clunky to me.
Professor Grisenko is supposedly there for comic relief I guess, however he just comes across as an odd and somewhat forced character. His obsession with Western pop music feels out of place, and he doesn’t add much to the story. Instead of injecting charm, he just feels unnecessary and highly irritating.
"Ultravox! Do they split up?"
Overall, Cold War had potential but ended up being one of the more forgettable episodes of the Eleventh Doctor’s era. The setting was intriguing, but the execution left it feeling flat and unengaging. None of the characters were of particular interest to me, and the villain was pretty meh. Add that to a reminder of what a sorry state this fucked up world is in and it just was not for me. Sorry!
RATING: Exterminate!
BEST LINE: "Where is the honor in condemning billions of innocents to death? Five thousand years ago Mars was the center of a vast empire, the jewel of this solar system. The people of Earth had only just begun to leave their caves. Five thousand years isn’t such a long time. They’re still just frightened children. Still primitive. Who are you to judge them?"
