Well fuck me sideways and call me Susan Foreman, the Tuesday's are back out in force again I see, the C U Next Tuesday variety of Tuesdays!!!
What has happened of late? Ncuti has done a few interviews, RTD has done a few interviews, and then a pile on has commenced. The RIP Doctor Who crew come crawling out the woodwork - I have a very simple idea for you all, shut the fuck up, fuck the hell off and don't watch 'Doctor Woke' anymore!!!!
It isn't as simple as that though is it? These weapons need Doctor Who, it gets them clicks, it gets them views, and therefore it gets them money. So the irony of the whole thing is, if Doctor Who was as dead as they say it is, then their social media accounts would be gathering tumbleweed somewhere in the twittersphere!
I guess therefore that is mainly where the problems lie. Money!! Isn't that always the case though? If you can get paid for abusing someone because they are gay, black, trans, etc and you can do it all from the safety of behind your keyboard/phone, and you have no morals, why wouldn't you do it??!!
Much to my shame whilst writing this I have viewed various posts and YouTube videos stating Doctor Who is either dead, woke, gay or all of the above. I won't mention the names of some of these people, I am sure you can hazard a good guess at who I am talking about though.
First off is some prat calling RTD a 'sweaty groomer' based on, well I am not sure what it is based on! The fact this dick screenshotted RTD's Variety interview saying the Doctor "was someone who does have a lightness and a joy about him that, to me, chimes with queer energy." suggests that that is his evidence for RTD grooming. Fucking hell, call 999, what a horrendous thing for RTD to say!!!! I mean saying someone has a queer energy is definitely justification to call them a paedophile, and a sweaty one at that!!
Fact check - this isn't new information - the Doctor wanted to snog Yaz's face off only a few few episodes ago. Captain Jack has given the Doctor a smacker. The Doctor didn't give a flying fuck about Jack or Bill's sexuality, or the sexuality of any of the people they have met and yes, the Doctor does have a lightness and a joy about them.
What next, ah yes, a video claiming that Ncuti hates all Doctor Who fans and that he is racist and viewers have fallen off a cliff. They also seem offended by the Doctor dancing in a club and seem to think Ncuti only got the role because of the colour of his skin. The video I watched also went on to say that the Variety interviews were put out there because the people involved in the show know it is shit and have only made it for "the message" and therefore they have an excuse to fall back on when it fails, claiming it only did so because of racism - I mean what a load of shit!!!!
In response to this I would say RTD isn't exactly known for putting out shit TV shows that get universally pummelled. Secondly, where are all these fans jumping ship and not watching the show? Viewing figures looked very healthy indeed in the UK, 7.49 million people watched the Christmas special, for a comparison 9.20 million watched Mr Bates vs The Post Office, and that was talked about EVERYWHERE!! You couldn't get away from it. However, that show made a £1 million loss as nobody watched it anywhere but the UK, Doctor Who is now beamed out to the whole World via Disney+, and if the 5 million plus views of the new trailer (that is just the Disney+ one and doesn't include other channels and the BBC one) is anything to go by then it will be very well watched!!
Now to the Variety interview? What has got the haters knickers in a twist? Ncuti said if you didn't want to see a non straight white male play the Doctor then don't watch the show - and that's it, that's the message I am trying to say in this blog. Ncuti is spot on, if you don't like it, don't watch it!! If it affects you that much that the Doctor is black then seriously just fuck off!! When you do fuck off, make sure you aren't profiting from slandering the people who work so hard to give us this amazing show!!! When you are there slagging off Ncuti for being black or RTD for being gay, you aren't just slagging one person off, you are literally telling a whole load of people they can never be this or that because they aren't white or aren't straight!!
The other argument that comes up is that this show is made for children and therefore they shouldn't be exposed to a gay Doctor, or something along those lines anyway!!! What can I possibly say to argue with that dumb statement?! All I can say is that children are less thick than adults, they don't care what the colour of someone's skin is, they don't care that someone is straight, or gay, or trans, they just don't care. They don't care and they are all the better for it.
I also know more kids watch YouTube and are likely to stumble upon their hate than watch Doctor Who.
This is a terrible example I know, but I have recently found out I am autistic, and for many, many years I have struggled with certain things. I have never been able to talk to people, struggle to get work as I cannot for the life of me get through an interview, I worried I have no compassion, and on and on. If I had a Sheldon Cooper on my TV when I grew up I would of known I wasn't the only one who felt that way about things.
I also live in a small village, and it is predominantly white. A lot of issues seem to be centred around cities, but what about the only black kid in a school out in the sticks? Why can't they turn on the TV and think oh wow, the Doctor is like me, I'm not alone, this amazing character is just like me!!
Ncuti seems like such a bloody good egg as well!!! Always smiling, always happy to meet fans, he seems generally thrilled to be the Doctor.
The show has a magic touch when it comes to casting the main character, every person in the role has looked like they have loved every second of being the Doctor, and they have done it with kindness!! When people say we should be more like the Doctor, I think we should be more like the actors who have played the Doctor!!
Jodie got pelters from the second she was cast, yet there she was, in her wardrobe, filming herself being the Doctor to lift peoples spirits during COVID. Only the other day Christopher Eccleston ran the London Marathon for Big Issue and you could tell that he was generally moved about peoples struggles and what the money he raised would do to help them. David Tennant standing up for trans rights, his nerd skills of Doctor Who. I just want to be Matt Smith's best mate, I want to go and have a kickabout with him, he comes across as a top guy, and I love the interview where he describes playing the Doctor as the best job in the World. Then there is Peter Capaldi, visiting fans in hospital and staying in character and just being a complete and total Doctor Who geek, how can you not love each and every one of these people.
That is the bottom line of what I am trying to get at, all these actors are just examples of good people being given the best acting job in the Universe, and I want to enjoy the ride with them, I don't want to be all gloomy because some prick is looking for a few more views on their YouTube channel.
Listen to Ncuti I beg of you - "go and touch some grass".
