A very brief history of our little pals - the LEGO Minifigures

I do love a minifigure. So I thought I would delve into their history a bit, here's what I found out.

Minifigs made their debut in 1978. They were designed to be compatible with the LEGO brick system and added a whole new dimension to LEGO.

In the beginning the minifigs were quite simple, with simple faces with only eyes and a smile. There wasn't much variety in their body parts. They often represented police officers, firefighters and construction workers.

As the LEGO themes expanded so to did the minifigures. There were characters from space, pirates and figures from castles. They began to become more varied with the introduction of accessories like swords, helmets and printed torsos.

When we hit the late 90's this marked the beginning of LEGO partnering with major franchises. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Batman, Disney, the list is now endless. This raised the popularity of minifigures.

Today, minifigures feature intricate printing, unique moulds, and a wide array of accessories. With the introduction of collectible minifigure series and custom figures, the diversity and detail of mini-figures have reached new heights.

The journey of the LEGO Minifigure from its humble beginnings to its status as a beloved icon reflects LEGO's commitment to innovation, creativity, and play. As they continue to evolve, Minifigures remain a testament to the enduring appeal of LEGO and its power to bring joy to people of all ages.
