A review of a different telephone box

Updated: Feb 22

A simple red box - what does it stand for? A simpler time when we all played outside and weren't glued to mobile phones? A time when Woolworths ruled the high street and people still went to the high street? Or does it remind you of a time that still hangs about like a bad smell today. You know, things like the vile royal family, the post office, posh entitled cunts like Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg? Our exports? Would anyone thank our country for Piers Morgan, James Corden and Russell fucking Brand?!

LEGO red telephone box in display cabinet. It is with other LEGO sets including the TARDIS, Batmobile and some flowers.

Before I go into the LEGO set...

The British royal family needs to get in the fucking bin!!! Oh but it is a symbol of tradition, stability and national pride you shout? All I can see is elitism, greed and exploitation. Maybe it is the tism in me, but fuck me people are fucking thick. Waving their flags for these vile pricks.

I mean I am just talking the here and now, never mind how 'the firm' got where they are in the first place. Violence, oppression, theft to name a few things. I can let that slide as that wasn't under the watch of any of the current lot. What I cannot let slide is the rest of it. How much is their family fortune? Vast estates, luxury palaces, all whilst citizens of Britain, the Commonwealth and the World struggle to deal with a cost-of-living crisis or much worse. Oh and of course us peasants pay for their jet setting lifestyles with our taxes. Tax isn't something they have to worry about much obviously!

Can't get a doctor's appointment? Have to go private for the dentist? No police about? Don't fucking worry about that, Buckingham Palace has got some lovely new wallpaper!!

The monarchy exists as the ultimate symbol of inherited privilege. It tells people that no matter how talented, hardworking, or intelligent they are, they will never be part of the elite unless they are born into it. In a modern society it’s ridiculous that we still have an unelected head of state whose primary qualification is being born into the right family.

Don't worry though, William is going to end homelessness isn't he? Not by giving up his many properties or money though!!

The monarchy is an institution that belongs in the past. It represents inequality, corruption, and a system that rewards privilege over progress. If Britain truly wants to be a modern, forward-thinking country, it’s time to ditch the royals and focus on building a society where power is earned, not inherited. I won't hold my breath though.

I have slated them off before in my Tooth and Claw review about homelessness. They are so fucking vile.

What was I here to discuss? Ah yes, a review of a different kind of telephone box than I normally speak about, not the TARDIS but the LEGO Red London Telephone Box. I don't know what has happened in our house of late, but the wife and youngest are becoming big LEGO fans. After our trip to Billund the wife has brought herself The Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell (43225) and then splashed out on Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops (76444). She also treated me to this pretty set, what a legend she is. She has become a true AFOL, and where the hell is she getting all her money from?!

It was to be expected - but I was still taken aback by it - there is a lot of red pieces involved! I worried this might therefore be a bit of a boring build. At the start I thought my fears would come true, it was all very much the same thing over and over, but as I progressed the build got more and more interesting and was ultimately a fun one.

Has anyone else built this one? Did they have a moment halfway through the build? Or was it just me? I built the inside part, without realising it could be an older or more modern version. I spent a long time hunting for missing pieces that were never missing. Completely my fault for not paying any attention!

I love how the modern phone looks inside, this is my era of phone, so that is the one I went for. I enjoyed the little things inside, the posters and the Yellow Pages. Ah good times!

I enjoyed building the roof as well, I thought this came together neatly. The little street built as the backdrop to the main event is very cute also, complete with iron fencing and hanging baskets. It looks really good, charming even.

Yes, LEGO got this spot on, but I cannot help feel a little depressed by my comments at the start. In conclusion, while the build was occasionally a bit repetitive and I had a moment of confusion about the parts, the final product is a true delight. This set is a reminder of a time when things were made with love, care, and an eye for lasting beauty. A time before a large company (BT) replaced magic (red telephone boxes) with soulless empty glass boxes. Something beloved lost to the hands of a corporation.

For more information how corporate life and greed has shit all over beautiful, magical fun things see football, kids TV, chocolate, actually, fucking anything! A lovely looking set though!
